So there are these sulfur miners in Indonesia, and guess what
they do all day? Here. I'll tell you.
A day in the life of an Indonesian sulfur miner:
You wake up, get dressed, eat breakfast, and head out to work.
You then mine enough sulfur to fill your bag and haul it over your
shoulder, starting on your trek. You walk up, over the mountain,
all the while breathing in harmful sulfuric acid, and then walk down
the mountain to drop off your bag at the market. Then you walk back for
your next load. You do this about two more times, then head home for the
night. By the end of the week, you have made SEVEN DOLLARS.
My point is, these sulfur miners are being tricked! They need to be paid
much more than just seven lousy dollars a week! They probably don't even
know that there are jobs that pay $1,150 a week for just sitting in a desk all
day! Anyways, I wrote to Mr. President about this matter and
I got in return an autographed picture, a map of the White House and a letter
saying "It's minds like you that will shape the next generation..." What I'm saying
is, we really need to create a program or fundraiser to raise money to help the Indonesian
sulfur miners. Don't ya think?
That's good of you to write a letter to the President. You are a good writer, Brynn! I believe that you can do great things just by creating awareness. I'd like to read more about the Indonesian sulfur miners now.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we were watching a documentary about it and I just got really interested!
